چکیده

Abstract. We present speleothem fluid inclusion ?18Of and ?2Hf values from Larga Cave, Puerto Rico, that cover the interval between 46.2 15.3 ka on millennial scale, including Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) several stadial interstadial cycles. The data set can be divided in two main clusters of stable isotope compositions water with respect to global meteoric line (GMWL), which coincide strong variations content stalagmite. In particular, this clustering is found climate related, where one cluster comprises samples cold dry periods, such as Heinrich Greenland stadials (HSs GSs), well parts LGM, exhibit very high values. interpret enrichment being caused by evaporation inside cave due enhanced ventilation during these colder drier times. contrast, most corresponding warmer wetter interstadials (GIs), but also for some HS 2 3, plot modification “in-cave” are negligible. Consequently, recent glacial hydro-climate temperatures western tropical Atlantic constrained. general, inclusions up 3 ‰ higher than those modern drip water, interpreted a weaker atmospheric convective activity last period. addition, reconstructed suggest an average cooling 2–3 ?C LGM compared temperatures. Reconstructed yield ?1.4 ± 2.8 ?3.6 2.2 3. Higher further was dominated orographic rainfall and/or fronts, along weak or even absent activity. phases, reached nearly values, comparable only slightly today.

Timing of millennial-scale climate change in Antarctica and Greenland during the last glacial period.

A precise relative chronology for Greenland and West Antarctic paleotemperature is extended to 90,000 years ago, based on correlation of atmospheric methane records from the Greenland Ice Sheet Project 2 and Byrd ice cores. Over this period, the onset of seven major millennial-scale warmings in Antarctica preceded the onset of Greenland warmings by 1500 to 3000 years. In general, Antarctic temp...

Was millennial scale climate change during the Last Glacial triggered by explosive volcanism?

The mechanisms responsible for millennial scale climate change within glacial time intervals are equivocal. Here we show that all eight known radiometrically-dated Tambora-sized or larger NH eruptions over the interval 30 to 80 ka BP are associated with abrupt Greenland cooling (>95% confidence). Additionally, previous research reported a strong statistical correlation between the timing of Sou...

Millennial-Scale Ecological Changes in Tropical South America Since the Last Glacial Maximum

An analysis of rates of ecological change (RoC) from thirteen pollen records from tropical South America is presented here. The analysis aims to identify the periods of fastest change since the last glacial maximum (LGM) and possible driving mechanisms. Despite rapid cooling periods, region-wide profound droughts, fire and human disturbances, RoC analysis showed that the speed of these climate ...

Orbital and Millennial-Scale Precipitation Changes in Brazil from Speleothem Records

Paleorainfall variability on orbital and millennial time scales is discussed for the last glacial period and the Holocene, based on a multi-proxy study of speleothem records from Brazil. Oxygen isotope (δ18O) records from Botuverá and Santana caves, precisely dated by U-series methods, indicate stronger summer monsoon circulation in subtropical Brazil during periods of high summer insolation in...
